Your First Visit to Our
Newton Chiropractic Practice
If you’ve already completed your admitting paperwork, great! If not, you will have time to do so in the office before you meet Dr. Oliver.
We Explain Everything First
The purpose of your consultation with the doctor is to discuss your health goals and see if chiropractic can help you. If it looks promising, a thorough examination will help identify the cause of your problem. If we can help - great- we will make our ideal recommendations for care. If we cannot, we will refer you to the proper health care specialist. Our goal is make you comfortable. If you're unsure or unsatisfied with something we say or a certain procedure, let us know. We're here to help.
Newton chiropractic patients appreciate that we explain everything in advance.
What will happen on my first visit?
The first visit is helpful in gathering the necessary information, to see if chiropractic is right for you. You will meet with Dr. Oliver after filling out some brief paperwork describing your health history and goals. The initial consultation is free. We offer this so we can get to know one another and decide whether or not chiropractic care is right for you.
If you are a good candidate for chiropractic care and we think it can help you, the next step is an examination.
During the exam:
- You will be asked to perform some range-of-motion tests (to see if there are any restricted movements or motions that cause you discomfort).
- Dr Oliver will perform orthopedic tests (to determine if there are any underlying problems)
- He will also do a thorough postural analysis because poor posture often is the culprit for many of the conditions we see.
- Following these test, Dr Oliver will examine your spine to determine if there are any areas which are not functioning as they should be. (He is looking for areas which are ofter referred to as subluxations. * A subluxation is an area of the spine that doesn't function as it should anymore. There are numerous reasons and activities in our daily life which can lead to the development of subluxations. These areas of improper spinal movement can lead to pain or other abnormal symptoms which are often the reason for our patients seeking treatment. If these areas are not corrected they can lead to more prolonged and chronic conditions.
- Depending on your history and what we discover in the exam Dr. Oliver may order x-rays of your spine to confirm his exam findings and to help determine approximately how long the problem has actually been there.
The importance of each of these tests will be explained to you at your Report of Findings. However, it is important to note that this examination helps scientifically understand the subluxation processes going on in your spine. It also gives us a baseline for future tests so we can accurately measure your progress to see how your spine is correcting and your nervous system is functioning.
At the end of the first visit if Dr. Oliver determines you do not need x-rays he will explain what he has found and explain the adjustment process. At that point treatment can begin right then and there. If X-rays are performed or Dr. Oliver would like more time to go over your exam results, a second visit well be scheduled where the Report of Findings will be given and treatment can begin.
You will be joining millions of others worldwide that have enjoyed better health through chiropractic. Congratulations on your decision to explore chiropractic care in our office.
